One
day, a man found a cocoon of a butterfly. He brought it home and started
observing its developments. The next day a small opening appeared. He sat and
watched the butterfly for a few hours as it struggled to force itself out of that
little hole until it suddenly stopped making any progress and looked like it
was stuck in the hole. So the man decided to help the butterfly the way he can.
He took a pair of scissors and cut off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The
butterfly then emerged easily, although it had a swollen body and
underdeveloped wings.
The man did not think anything about it and observed there waiting for the wings to get large so that he can support the butterfly, but that did not happen. The butterfly spent the rest of its life unable to fly, crawling with tiny wings and swollen body despite the support of this man with a kind heart. He did not understand that the restricting cocoon and the struggle needed by the butterfly to get itself through the small opening were God’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings to prepare itself for flying once it was out of the cocoon.
Our struggles in life help to develop our strengths. Without struggles, there would be no growth and there would be no strength. Therefore, it is important for us to tackle challenges on our own and not to rely on help from others.
